I was disappointed at the last tournament I attended. Maybe I wasn’t in the mood or maybe I was just annoyed with the way the bracket turned out. Or maybe it was that 10 minute match I had with a really turtly Bison player that tired me out.
So this tournament I set a goal for myself. I wasn’t sure how many people were going but I was set on making Top 12 if anything. I was expecting to play matches that I loathe and I made a promise to myself to sit there and shut my mouth if these matches ended up being where I had to chase the other character the entire round. If it came down to that I promised myself to get a life lead and to sit on that life lead.
My first match was against a Gief. I had two options. Go the route that I know or the route which makes the match up easier for me. So I decided with option 2. I picked Chun and I won the match. I’m not a Chun main and I still don’t know everything there is to know but I guess I knew enough to win. My opponent was pretty upset but he hid that behind jokes. His two friends were laughing at him because they had warned him about me. I guess in other tournaments I put them in the losers bracket. Either way, after the match, we played two more casual matches because he wanted to play my Ken. I ended up beating him again 2-0.
In between matches I played tons of casuals. There were plenty of setups (I even brought my own EVO monitor setup) and there were several people waiting to play me. I honestly STILL don’t get the big deal of wanting to play a girl who plays but I guess some people are still trying to test me.
I played against a Bison in a tourny match and won that convincingly with Ken. Another tourny match was against another Ken player and I won that convincingly.
It was a Honda player that put me in losers and eventually a Dudley player that put me out of the tournament.
What I didn’t know about the Honda player was that I had beaten him when I went to Absolute Battle in a 5v5. Afterwards he reminded me that I was the one that beat him. I could sense his saltiness but I just shrugged my shoulders and went on with my business. I guess he had something to prove. I dont’ know.
Well I tied for 9th and I met my goal of getting Top 12. I still have a lot of things I need to do in regards of training and following through on combos. Sometimes I’m just now confident and I don’t want to take risks.
Either way it was fun.
