Hello everyone my name is Jason Laboy aka “jason24cf” I started off like any other fan of the Fighting game Community. I followed all the top players and wished I could be as good as them. While I have played Street Fighter for 25 yrs I never played the game with the seriousness that today’s top player’s exhibit.
It wasn’t until I decided to step my game up (as I was tired of losing) when I started to search youtube for player videos. Mainly video replays of my main character. That is when I cam across replays of Inthul’s break out performance at East Coast Throwdown 2. Once I had seen what this character was able to do I at that point took the game more serious.
I reached out to DMG Inthul and with his down to earth and great personality we soon became great friends and he did his best to teach me to become a great player. But that is now what I am not known for. I am known for conducting interviews with members of the Fighting Game Community. I have had to pleasure to interview Seth Killian, Justin Wong, Wolfkrone, PR Balrog, Inthul and countless others.
My big break came at NEC 2010. I was asked by DMG’s President to “pitch a sponsorship proposal” to Mad Catz very own Mark Julio aka MarkMan. Now I didn’t know much about the FGC as I only became serious about it just a few months earlier. I was entrusted with an extremely important matter of selling DMG to MarkMan when I wasn’t even a member of DMG.
I then became a member of DMG as its “Public relations Manager”. I am responsible for keeping content of DMG players fresh and up to date for the FGC. I record players matches during ever tournament I attend so fans of these players can see what there favorite player has done at such event.
I also handle a lot of work behind the scenes that is not seen by the FGC. I speak to our players daily making sure they are up to date with there travel arrangements and registrations. I also assist with many of the business matters of DMG. Let’s not also forget I still conduct interviews with some of the world’s best players, as well as other members of the FGC that assist its growth.
Like a dual mooding expert who allows players to use 1 fight stick or pad for multiple gaming platforms. Or a member of the FGC who hears the needs of his fellow gamers and in turn he opens up an online store to cater to there specific needs. As these list of responsibilities grow so did my role with DMG. I am glad to say that if you work very hard, your hard work will pay off as I am now currently the GM/VP of DMG.
Plus I also stepped up my game as well and I am no longer “FREE”
So don’t sell yourself short. If you have a passion, follow it and give it your all. Understand there will be many downfalls during the path you pick but don’t allow yourself to stay stuck in that hole. Climb out of it and keep pushing forward. Because in the end when you see the progress of what you set out for, you can take great pleasure in knowing that you accomplished what you set out to do.
